Strength rising from loss
This series of three oil paintings explores the quiet, often invisible tension between grief and resilience. Each canvas captures a moment suspended between heaviness and strength, where sorrow is not an end point, but part of a transformation.
A red cardinal appears throughout the works as a recurring symbol of grief, small yet striking, its presence both delicate and impossible to ignore. It carries the weight of memory, loss, and longing, present within each scene as a reminder that sorrow lingers, even in stillness.
In contrast, the horse embodies strength and courage. Powerful and unyielding, it represents the instinct to keep moving forward. Its form brings a sense of motion and determination, suggesting that resilience is not the absence of pain, but the will to rise alongside it.
Together, these symbols create a visual dialogue between vulnerability and endurance. The paintings do not seek to resolve this struggle, but rather to honour it, revealing how grief and courage coexist, shaping a deeper, more complex sense of self.
